This is a truely fantastic device & much cheaper than buying hard copy Books. It is so easy to read & does not have any glare problems. It always keeps your place in the book as well. Top device

VERY DISAPPOINTED!, February 8, 2011
By just-me
I purchased this item on Amazon just before Thanksgiving. By Christmas, it was nothing but problems. They say the battery life will last a month without internet use, but how can you read a book or use it without the internet? It has to be plugged in 24/7 in order to use it. If you try and use the battery, it will only run for about 10 minutes. I contacted customer service within 30 days of the purchase and never heard back from them. What a waste of money! I will try and replace the battery if it is user friendly, but there is no telling how long that new one will last. I also had problems with syncing the books I was reading. It would not keep track of the page I left off on and I would have to sync it. That didn't always work. So I would have to flip through hundreds of pages to get where I was in the book. I guess the best bet is to buy the book. No batteries, and a bookmark will always be where I left off without wearing down the battery to get where I was. If they think you can read a book without internet, you can't. And I ended up with other people's bookmarks and notes. Whats that story with that?

I bought the kindle to save money on books, however they keep raising the prices. So I am going back to printed book version on most items, especially books with photos!Buyer beware.

It does what it is supposed to do, February 8, 2011

I've been using the Kindle Wi-Fi Graphite 6" Display with New E Ink Pearl Technology for a little less than a month now. It does exactly what it says it will do. I have a color LCD reader also and the Kindle is much faster, easier to read, and the battery lasts longer. I don't use the WiFi at all. My only complaint is that 6" is too small for old eyes (52) like mine. I can increase the font size but that means there are more pages to turn. I would recommend it to anyone that asked and wish that my eyes were 20 years younger (at least).

Screen is too fragile, February 8, 2011

Have broken two screens so far, so am on my third kindle. Better buy the overpriced warranty if you have any history of awkward moments such as dropping things or putting any weight on the screen.

WOW! Love my Kindle go everywhere with it!, February 8, 2011

I have a Kindle 3G which i bought back in October 2010, i find it so handy, it's been to the beach with me, to work, to hospital, to appointments in fact it goes every where with me! I found it so good i bought one for my daughter for her 18th birthday. She will be able to access text books etc for her studies at University and i can send her books from my kindle as we read the genre etc. (I have kept her kindle registered to me but under a different name)
I personally find the Kindle a little difficult to hold as MY fingers want to hold it where the control buttons are positioned. However i have learned to adjust my fingers differently.
I purchased a cover for it as i knew it would get damaged in my handbag/purse along with keys and over things i keep in there! I have the neoprene type for durability and convience (just slip it on)! Anyway great buy well worth buying.

My 3G Kindle, February 8, 2011
By Jiminylover
I received my kindle for christmas from my son. I thought it would be interesting to use since I am an avid reader. The cost of my books through the kindle store is much less than I have ben paying through a discount book store. The 3G feature means that even if I am away from my computer when I finish a book I can buy a new book right then!! This is important as I am currently hooked on a series that has 40 books in it. I just wish that you would list them in the store in numerical order, ie the Harry Potter books.
I love my kindle so much that I bought one on-line for my sister for her birthday. She just received it last friday and has already loaded 3 books onto it. So thank-you for making such a WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL, product!

I forgot how much I love to read, February 8, 2011
By Kathy
My husband and I bought a kindle for Christmas that we thought we would share. He called me a Kindle Hog, so we bought another. I don't have the time to research books to find something to read so I haven't done much reading over the past few years. Now I am reading at every opportunity. I have purchased a few books, but I'm also finding lots of good reading in the free category. I really do love my Kindle.

Even better than I thought, February 8, 2011
By Bob
Upon writing this review, I've owned my Kindle for 2 weeks now. And there's been nearly 11 thousand reviews giving the Kindle 5 stars, but here's my 2 cents anyway.
The Kindle arrived nicely packed and was easy to get started.
I very much like the design of the Kindle 3. In first handling the Kindle, accidental page turns were made with the side buttons. But like the lab rat getting the shock, one quickly adapts and the side buttons have never been a problem for me since.
The 5-way controller appeared smaller than I thought, but I've never had problems navigating with it. I like the fact that the Kindle has a Qwerty keyboard and it's already come in handy.
Battery life is outstanding. When you're accustomed to battery life being measured in hours in other devices, the Kindle can last weeks and up to a month. Although I've only owned my Kindle for 2 weeks, I believe this claim. What makes the battery last so long is the e-ink screen. Power is only needed to alter the screen graphics. No power is needed to hold an image on the screen - that's pretty cool. Which is also why when the Kindle is put to sleep, one of the 23 included images appears, so you're not left with a blank screen.
I've read comments that the print on the Kindle buttons can fade. After 2 weeks, I've noticed wear on the arrows on the 5-way control pad. For me, this is not a concern as I don't need arrows helping me for up, down, left and right. Even if the page turn direction arrows fade, I'd still know their functions. The keyboard on the other hand, that would be a problem - although my keyboard still looks fine. There are skins available that eliminate that concern (ones that cover the keyboard buttons), but for now, I'll use my Kindle as is until and if it ever becomes a problem. I still gave the Kindle 5 stars, even though I see this as a slight design flaw. Perhaps the text on the buttons should of been etched in and painted, thus reducing the likelihood of wear.
Reading on the Kindle is enjoyable. Plus you even get a couple of hidden games on the Kindle. A "Minesweeper" type game and "GoMoku". Accessed by pressing 'Shift + Alt + M' on the Kindle home screen. The Kindle "Menu" button will give you some game options as well.
Very happy with the Kindle.
